On behalf of the entire team here at Lime Technology, we are pleased to announce the availability of the Unraid 6.2 public beta. Our goals with this release were simple: add features and make things easier.

Ever wonder what kind of gaming rig you could build with $30,000? Nope, neither did we, but Linus Sebastian of LinusTechTips sure did. Near the end of 2015, we worked with Linus on a number of videos that incorporated the use of Unraid. These projects were a blast and we had a ton of fun working on them.

If you missed the last LinusTechTips video that featured Unraid, you'll want to check it out, but he recently published another one showcasing how Unraid helped him achieve 10gbps throughput over SMB on his Storinator from 45drives.

Linus Sebastian provides content to his audience (nearly 2 million youtube subscribers) in various forms: hardware reviews/unboxings, news analysis, build guides, and much more. After the release of Unraid 6, we reached out to Linus to see if he had any interest in demonstrating some of our capabilities in one of his shows.

A unique and powerful use-case for Unraid is in its ability to combine the capabilities of a powerful gaming rig with a storage server. In today's blog post, we wanted to cover this use-case and discuss the ever-so-important elephant in the room: what is performance like?

On July 29th, Microsoft released the newest version of their desktop OS, Windows 10. This new release brings the return of the start menu, support for multiple desktop screens, and DirectX 12, which promises massive performance improvements for gaming. There are plenty of other goodies baked into Windows 10, but the point of this post today isn't to educate you on Windows 10 itself, but rather, what's relevant to know about it with respect to use with Unraid.
