My passion for computers began in childhood when I was lucky enough to have access to what I consider two of the greatest computers ever produced: the Atari 800XL and the Commodore 64. Those early experiences ignited a passion that has stayed with me throughout my life.
As an adult, I embarked on my IT career in 1999 with a small company, a time when the Millennium Bug was the talk of the town, sparking fears and predictions of technological doom! This was also the time when a colleague introduced me to macOS and Linux, sparking an immediate fondness for these systems that has stayed with me ever since. However, a few years later, I embraced the challenge of entrepreneurship by starting my own Managed Services Provider business here in the UK, which initially leaned heavily towards Windows systems. As business expanded, we incorporated Linux into our operations, so today, Linux is not just a personal preference but a significant part of our MSP services.
My discovery of Unraid was sparked by a search in 2012 for a NAS to replace one I had bought. But to be honest, my experiments with Unraid back then were short-lived. However everything changed with the release of Unraid 6 around 2014 or 2015. Introducing Docker and VM support in the OS was a game-changer for me. It was the one and only thing that totally reignited that sense of wonder and excitement I felt during my days with the Atari and Commodore 64. Unraid didn't just meet a need, and it ignited a new passion within me.
This newfound enthusiasm prompted me to start a YouTube channel in 2016, aiming to share my knowledge and help others navigate their own tech adventures. More recently, I've had the incredible opportunity to become the host of the Uncast Show and join the official Unraid support team. It's been an extraordinary journey, and I look forward to what the future holds.
Beyond the world of IT, I cherish the time spent with my family and my Siberian Husky, Shadow. I have a fondness for VW campers, enjoy the warmth and freedom of summer, delight in retrogaming, and, of course, love diving into techy projects whenever possible!
