The 2026 Unraid Customer Survey: Nearly 3,000 of You Spoke. Here's What We Heard

In January 2026, we sent out an Unraid Customer Survey. Honestly? We were blown away by the results.

Nearly 3,000 of you took the time to tell us what you like, what you love, and most importantly, where we need to step up. We've spent the last few weeks going through responses and while most of it confirmed we're on the right track, there were a few clear themes that are directly shaping our priorities for the rest of 2026.

Here's what we learned. And more importantly, here's what we're doing about it.

The Community is Thriving — and Global

Let's start with the headline numbers.

Over 60% of respondents are based outside the US, with Germany as our #2 userbase, followed by Canada, the UK, and Australia. Unraid has always felt like a global community, and the survey data confirms it.

On satisfaction: you gave us a Net Promoter Score of 45.1. For reference, the average for software products sits between 30 and 40. 

Also, a whopping 90.3% of you said Unraid has the right features for your use case, and 95.4% consider the price fair or better.

Those numbers made our day.

One other thing that stood out: when we looked at which other platforms you evaluated before landing on Unraid be it TrueNAS, Synology, Proxmox, ESXi , etc., it became clear why you chose us. You weren't just looking for a NAS OS or just a hypervisor. You wanted both. Unraid is the OS that bridges storage, apps, and virtualization in one system, and no one else in that list does that the same way.

You also didn't hold back on where we need to improve

Good. That's exactly what we needed to hear. Here's what came through loud and clear, and what we're doing about each one.

1. The web UI needs a refresh

This was the #1 request in the open-ended feedback mentioned by nearly 27% of respondents. You want a faster dashboard, a better file browser, and an interface that works nicely on your phone or tablet.

We agree and the good news is that we've been working on a comprehensive UI/UX redesign for many months now. The goal is an interface that feels as fast and modern as what's running underneath it.

2. Native Docker Compose support

24.5% of you specifically asked for native, first-class Docker Compose support — not a plugin workaround. The container ecosystem is moving in this direction, and Unraid needs to move with it. The good news is, this is on the core product roadmap as a strategic initiative in 2026. More details to come!

3. Better docs + more video content

About 26% of you felt the official documentation needed work. And here's the thing: 59% of you discovered Unraid through YouTube in the first place. Video+ Reddit is clearly how people learn about Unraid.

We hear you on both fronts. Our entire docs site is getting a refresh, with a focus on making setup scenarios clearer and easier to follow from start to finish. 

On the video and content side, we're doubling down across the board: new episodes of the Uncast Show, Unraid University courses (starting with Docker Fundamentals), and expanded written and hardware guides. There's a lot more coming on this front.

4. Clearer pricing and a smoother trial experience

95.4% of you think Unraid is fairly priced or a flat-out bargain. But about 25% of respondents found the current tier structure either confusing or hard to understand (or neutral), while trial users reported slightly lower satisfaction than paid users (7.68 vs. 8.37+).

We're actively testing new pricing page formats, including comparison tables and improved docs and messaging around our license tiers. We're also reworking the trial experience so new users can get their first server up and running with a lot less friction via improved onboarding wizards, which you will see in the 7.3 release.

Question 7 asked "How likely are you to recommend Unraid to a friend or colleague?" Results showed strong satisfaction across every paid tier. 

However, the one number we're zeroed in on is the trial score, because getting new users over the initial setup hump faster is one of the clearest wins in front of us.

What's Next

The great news? You don't have to wait long. Nearly every theme that came through in this survey from the UI modernization, docs improvements, Docker Compose support to improved onboarding is already underway or slated for this year. Your feedback didn't hand us a new to-do list, it confirmed that we're already working on the things that matter most to you. That alignment means a lot to us, and we're not slowing down.
