Our Story
Unraid started in 2005 as a personal quest to improve digital media storage.
Our founder, Tom, wanted a reliable way to store and back up his sizable DVD collection—far more than could fit on a single external hard drive.
His solution was Unraid OS. Our software makes it possible to link multiple storage devices together—even if they’re different sizes, types, or from different brands.
Nearly twenty years later, Unraid has grown into one of the most flexible, easy-to-use NAS OS on the market.

What is an Unraid?
A RAID array creates a single storage volume out of multiple hard drives to provide network attached storage—but there’s a catch: all the drives have to be the same. And you can’t add more without starting over.
