We are seeking an established DevOps Engineer to support, improve, and maintain mission-critical infrastructure at Lime Technology, creators of Unraid OS.

This position is best suited for someone who can work independently on a wide variety of given tasks with minimal direction. Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills are a must.

In this role, you will focus on configuring and maintaining cloud infrastructure, proactively monitoring systems for performance and security issues, and collaborating with development teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues. You'll have a broad array of responsibilities that cut across both development and DevOps.

This is a fully remote position. The right candidate is located in North America or has the ability to collaborate with the team for at least 4 hours each day between 8am - 5pm PST. You must have on-call availability to troubleshoot during system downtime.

Job Duties

  • Maintain, modernize, document, and troubleshoot services hosted on AWS.

  • Implement tools for automation, monitoring, and logging of applications.

  • Provide technical support to development staff and contractors.

  • Maintain our community forums which are on a self-hosted instance of Invision Community.

  • Write and maintain PHP.

  • Identify trends and technologies to assess security needs in advance of requirements.

  • Resolve systems issues; performing root cause analysis, modifying configurations, diagnosing issues, scripting, and other tasks as needed.

  • Enable our developers to deploy their services and applications by focusing on reliability, resiliency, scalability, observability, and security.

  • Identify areas for process automation and develop automated scripts and tools for regular operational activities.

Requirements & Preferences

Technical Requirements:

  • Advanced Docker, AWS, and Cloudflare knowledge.

  • Linux and git experience.

  • Extensive experience with cloud-based server security.

  • Proficient in at least one programming language; PHP preferred.

  • Experience with build pipelines for both automation and improvements.

  • Ability to move from developer-created infrastructure to well-defined terraform infrastructure.

General Requirements and Preferences:

  • You must have the ability to work independently on a wide variety of given tasks with minimal direction.

  • You must have on-call availability to troubleshoot during system downtime.

  • You must have a strong attention to detail and a proven ability to manage priorities.

  • Minimum 4 years of experience as a DevOps Engineer or a similar role.

  • Located within the United States preferred. If outside of the US, the ability to overlap with our team for at least 4 hours each day is required (Monday - Friday; 8am - 5pm PST).

  • Experienced Unraid user preferred.

  • You must be enthusiastic about improving, automating, modernizing, and documenting our existing infrastructure.

  • Experience working remotely is preferred.

  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn the technologies, coding, and programming languages used in the organization.

  • Eager to create new integrations with other systems to enhance our capabilities and find new ways to leverage existing features.

You’re a good fit for this position if…

  • You’re not afraid to jump into existing infrastructure and find opportunities to improve and modernize.

  • You enjoy working as a part of a small team and wearing multiple hats as needed.

  • You can be a "manager of one". This means you are able to prioritize your tasks, do what you say you'll do when you say you'll do it, and take personal responsibility for your work ethic.

  • You have strong written asynchronous communication skills and enjoy working as part of a remote team.

  • You can respectfully interact with users in public forums. Our online community is known to be one of the most friendly and helpful communities out there, and we are incredibly protective of that reputation.

  • You are an Unraid user (we would love to hire from our community!). At a minimum, you should set up Unraid locally and get a general feel for it before applying.

  • You are able to join us in person for two annual offsites (Spring and Fall), typically held in Southern California.

About Our Culture

We are a small but mighty team of home server enthusiasts. We currently employ 5 full-time employees in the US, with many more contractors worldwide.

At Lime Technology, we always put our people and their families first. This isn’t simply reflected in the words that make up our values—it’s infused in where we invest our money, how we set out to accomplish our goals, and our generous compensation and benefits packages.

We ensure that our employees are well cared for—financially, mentally, and emotionally. We require taking time off and prioritizing your health and your family’s needs over work. Our goal is to give our staff as much autonomy and freedom as possible.

We are a fully remote team, which means that communication—both verbal and written—are of utmost importance. We have regular team workshops and offsites to encourage and teach open and candid communication.

Since we are a small team, a cultural fit is just as important as technical skill and experience. Because of this, you will meet with all members of our team during the hiring process, and be required to have your video on (or we’ll meet in real life if applicable) so that we can connect more effectively.

If this sounds like a good fit, we’d love to meet you!
